Surely everyone has heard or seen all of the recent uproar over the upcoming Beijing Olympic games. But how much do you know of the internet phenomenon that is John Titor? John Titor is a self-proclaimed time traveler from the year 2036. It all started a while back when someone using the name John Titor began posting predictions on a forum. Since then, there have been many claims, such as future civil war in the U.S., World War 3, and the cancellation of the 2008 Olympic Games. His popularity has become so immense, that a documentary was created last year in the hopes of explaining who John Titor is.
I first learned of John Titor back in summer of '07, when the Cloverfield movie began getting serious hype. My boss and I started looking all over the internet for clues, at which point he brought up the subject. It sounded really bizarre to me at first, but looking deeper into the subject, I could see that something was there. It didn't cross my mind that this could have been just a large hoax, created by a conspiracy theorist or perhaps even a large studio looking to create internet buzz (read: Cloverfield).
But according to this page, it appears from this interview that 2008 will be the critical year. Ken Kelsey reported about the LHC machine; a machine that was reported as having the slight potential of creating a mini black hole. The whole concept is so unnerving, that a man in hawaii created a lawsuit to prevent the LHC machine from being turned on. John Titor predicted that a machine such as this helped pave the way to the invention of his time-travelling machine.
Its anyone's guess as to whether or not these premonitions will ultimately turn into reality. I'm still skeptical a man like John Titor really exists. But if the 2008 Olympic Games doesn't occur, its really, really, going to wig me out. At that point, it might be impossible to discount those predictions...
