My friend Sarah went to the Massey University design school exhibition and this was the one thing that drew her eye, enough for her to grab the business card from the stack there. The designer is Kylie Phillips, a new grad. I want to note that, for me, this is not a public dig at John McGrath, whose image appears on Ms Phillips’ business card. But it does highlight how public images—related here to the 2007 mayoral election in Wellington—are used for humour and satire.

I meant it in a joking manner as it appears childish to me. I see all kinds of bumper stickers and these remind me of "Mean People Suck". Now really - calling Mr. Phillips a pinhead is kind of immature. Now let's look at Edmund G. Brown Sr. - who Reagan defeated in the California Governor's race in 1966. I had a button about the size of a US half dollar coin that said: “SOB Stamp Out Brown”. Then there was "If It's Brown, Flush It”, now that's to the point and funny if you were anti-Brown. Some are more subtle like a button that the top half is brown and the bottom half is pink. There is one word: "IS" in the center of the button- translation: Brown is pink- e.g. Democrats are lefties and are soft on communism. I would probably have a great time running slogans in NZ if I didn't get arrested. LOL

In 1969 Jerry Brown ran for the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees. I was a student at one of the colleges in their jurisdiction and there was voter fraud at the student body election at my school and because of this the Conservative Club attended a board meeting over the election results. I wore the SOB button ;) A girl I knew in the club said that she was acquainted with Jerry [Edmund Jr.] and wanted to say hello wearing my button. I loaned her the button but I don't think that I ever got it back. So we walk up to Jerry with the button on her jacket and very deadpan Jerry said: "If it's Brown flush it." That was my only time meeting Jerry Brown. He later became Atty. General for California and then succeeds Ronald Reagan as California Governor.
